Case of Interest: Cranberry

Posted on 2011-12-07 15:49:03

Hi! I’m Cranberry. I’m a 7-week-old grey tabby kitten. Life for me is great right now but, man, have I had a rough few weeks. I came to Orchard Hills Animal Hospital three weeks ago in pretty rough condition. The children in my family loved me very much, but they didn’t understand how small and fragile I am. One day they were playing with me and with each other. I think they were wrestling with each other or something like that and they accidentally rolled over me and squashed me. Their dad picked me up and rushed me to Orchard Hills, where Dr. Gilmartin immediately assessed me and determined I had suffered brain damage due to head trauma and possibly a spinal cord injury. I was barely breathing and couldn’t stand or walk. They were worried I might have other internal injuries as well. Unfortunately, my family couldn’t afford to take care of me. I was going to be euthanized, but the staff at Orchard Hills fell in love with me and decided to try to save me. With the help of the local West Columbia Gorge Humane Society and using money from their Angel Memorial Fund, they took x-rays and performed blood work and provided medications for me. Most important of all, they gave me a lot of T.L.C. I stayed in the hospital during the day but, more exciting, I got to go to several of the nurse’s homes at night and over weekends so they could care for me. Now look at me! I’m walking and talking and purring and pouncing just like a normal kitten!

Thanks so much to Dr. Gilmartin and all my nurses for saving me! Now, as much as I love it here at Orchard Hills (what with all the treats and a warm bed and the playtime), I’m ready to go to a real home, where I can be loved and cared for. Hopefully somebody out there will want me! Please call Orchard Hills Animal Hospital (360.835.2184) if you are interested in adopting me. You’d be crazy not to, because I’m going to be a great addition to a home wherever I go! Also, please donate to the Angel Fund at Orchard Hills, so other pets in need like I was can be saved! That would be purrrfect.

Happy Holidays from Cranberry and the Orchard Hills Animal Hospital staff!
