Homemade Reduced-Protein Diet for Cats with Chronic Renal Failure
Ingredients
- 1/4 lb liver (beef, chicken or pork only)
- 2 large hard-boiled eggs
- 2 cups cooked white rice without salt
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tsp (5 g) calcium carbonate (TUMS)
- 1/4 tsp potassium chloride (salt substitute)
- Balanced daily supplement (i.e. Pet Tabs)
- 250 mg taurine/day
Instructions:
Dice and braise the meat, retaining the fat. Grind/crush the taurine and vitamin supplements. Combine all ingredients and mix well. This mixture can be somewhat dry. Add water (NO MILK!) to improve palatibility. Refrigerate unused portions.

This mixture yields 1 1/4 lb of food. It will, for example, supply a 5lb cat with 5 days of food.
