Your Pet's Dental Health
- Good dental health is just as important to your pet's well being as it is to yours! Here are some tips on how to identify, prevent and treat dental disease in your pet.
Identifying a Problem- If your pet will allow it, open its mouth and look inside. Look for the warning signs of gum disease - bad breath, red and swollen gums, a yellow-brown crust of tartar around the gumline, and pain or bleeding when you touch the gums or mouth. Seek veterinary care if you notice any of these problems.
You can see in this photo that this pet has plaque and tartar build-up on its teeth. A professional examination administered by the family veterinarian should be done now to determine whether a cleaning is required.
Prevention- The best way to prevent dental disease in your pets is with home dental care!
A complete home dental care program for your pet often will include brushing as well as a special pet food that helps care for your pet’s teeth while he or she eats.
Dental chews and oral rinses may also be incorporated into your pet's dental routine!
- Good to Chew
- Better to Rinse
- Best to BRUSH!

Even if you aren’t able to brush your pet’s teeth every day, by incorporating a special pet food into your pet’s daily routine, you can provide the dental care needed to keep your pet healthy. Be sure to talk with your veterinarian about the options that exist and which are right for your pet.

Treatment- The treatment of your pets dental condition can only be determined by a veterinarian. There could be underlying problems that need further attention. Schedule an appointment for a Dental Health Exam to discuss what would be best for your pets present and future dental well being!
